Quietex

Quietex Knowledge Base

Quietex and Ace for Horses A lot of people say I should use Ace or quietex to calm my horse during shows. His only problems are noise. I would consider but half the people I ask about it says it works fine and the other half says it doesn't. So would these products take the edge off my horse?
Is Quietex legal for shows? If not, are there any other good paste calmers that are?
Quietex...anybody ever used it? Im going to pick up a horse tomorrow. hes not a great loader as he hasnt been loaded enough. The trip will be about 2 1/2 hours, and im worried that if he spooks at something on the highway, he will rear and get hurt or something. I know how to get a bad loader on a trailer (plenty of experience) but im worried that he will freak and hurt himself. So i looked at tsc and they have this stuff called Quietex. Its used in shows and racing to kind of mellow out a spooky horse. Has anyone ever used or heard of it??? What is your experience with it??? Any suggestions are great!!! oh and i dont mean suggestions on how to load a horse. I know how to do that!!!!! Thanks oh, and its homeopathic so its safe. I Googled info on it and its safe, but i just want to know anybodys personal experience with it
Has anyone used the powder form of Quietex? I have a mare that I will be working for the next couple of months who is very insecure and nervous. She has been at our place for a week, and while she is calming down a LITTLE bit, she isn't nearly as calm as I know her to be. I used to ride her at a different facility for almost a year, and while she is generally a bit nervous to begin with... she is off the charts right now. We have already begun exercising her and working with her on the ground and building her trust back, but I am curious if Quietex will help take a little bit of the edge off. I don't want her "drugged," I just want her a little bit more calm. I bought a 30 day supply, and I am on the fence as to whether or not I want to administer. I have never used anything like this before. It isn't the paste form, it is the powder form that you put in their food everyday. Any input would be GREAT!!!!
Experiences with Quietex or other natural calming supplement??? Has anyone ever used any thing like this? Positive or negative experiences? We just "bought"/rescued a mare (yesterday) and no one can touch her - she's scared to death. I can rub her neck - but if I reach toward her head/halter she jerks away. I need to get ahold of her and don't want to freak her out more - while usually I would get her in a round pen (feed) and work with her until I can touch her - the halter the people left on her at the auction is twisted and I'm worried it is going to get sore - so that limits the time I have. I'm thinking a dose of this stuff may calm her enough I can get the halter off and then proceed with training as usual. No, don't plan on using it all the time or in place of training - don't want doped up horses - just thinking some in her food may help this time. Thoughts? I have only used Quietex once - on a yearling filly with the farrier - she can have a bit of an attitude and get marish - not let you catch her - etc, and this stuff worked wonders - she was sweet and stood perfectly still for him to do all four feet!
What works better to calm horses? calm and cool, or quietex? I have a big performance coming up and i would like her very quiet, shes and arab/QH so she can get her game on more than i would like.
Calming agents? has anyone had good luck with using Quietex to calm a horse that is anxious on trail rides? Or what other products work well? He is fine trail riding, just gets anxious if there is is more than 10 horses, and some of the rides i go on have 100+ horses on them. thanks,
best type of calmer? I am going on a trail ride this weekend and I want to ride my TB mare. Unfortunetly she is a typical TB and gets excited very easily. Usually I wouldn't be worried but no one from my barn will be there so she will be with a group of about 6 strange horses, which again not usually a problem, but I am 4 months pregnant so I don't want to risk falling off. SHe doesn't buck/rear, but get prancy. I usually ride hunter/jumper, but I will be on a western saddle that I use for trails, plus I have been riding since I was 6 (now 22). This will be one of my last rides before I get to big to ride. She is more of a show horse, ut is pretty good o trails. I could also borrow another horse, but they are all too small for me (I am 5'10") and are between 14-15 hands. Has anyone used Quietex? I do have some Ace on had but she wouldn't need that strong of a drug. Please don't give me lectures on how I should give her more training! I have had her now for a year, and she is coming off of 4 years off as a broodmare (she is 12) so she has made great progress. I don't usually drug unless clipping and the horse isn't good with a twitch, this isn't a competition trail, its just for fun. My OB has also OKed riding until my 24 week, i am now at 20 the horses are to small for me, I have very long legs and have been on 17h horses that are still to small, in a western saddle my legs hit their feet if they pick them up high or jump something
I have a 6mo. old weaned Colt that is having difficulty adapting to being with anyone but my Gelding.? If anyone out there has any ideas/suggestions to help my little guy....I did the slow weaning process where mom & baby were seperated first for a couple hours, then all day, then by a stall, etc...the mom is back with the other mares and aclaimated, the colt is in his own stall at night with my old Gelding in the stall next to him. During the day I put the colt outside in a large sheltered paddock that is amongst all the other horses (seperated by 8ft. on all sides), always with a friend, never by himself. I've tried a younger Gelding & a miniature donkey with him now for weeks and the ONLY time he is ever calm and happy is if I put my older Gelding (his stall neighbor) in with him. It doesn't matter who else is with him, he runs the fence line until he's sweaty, looking for my older Gelding in the other pasture, and will not calm down until he can see my older Gelding on the other side of the fence, or unless I am in there with him. Here's my delimma... I can not give my colt my older Gelding because he and my Stallion have been together for 10yrs. and my Stallion and older Gelding are actually sad whenever I put him in with the colt. My older Gelding is 27yrs. old. knowing he won't live forever, I also got my Stallion a mini donkey, which is the donkey that I've tried with my Colt, with no success whatsoever. I don't know what else to do. The only other friend my colt will accept is my 40ish old pony! I'm so worried that my colt is going to colic due to stress, that I gave him Quietex today to help settle him outside w/ the donkey. It did help alittle....instead of running the fence line, he walked the fence line all day still looking for my older Gelding. He's so upset during the day he won't drink water or eat in his paddock either. He finally settlesdown when he's in his stall for the night, next to my older Gelding. Does anyone have any ideas?? Thank You
What is the best suppliment to calm down my barrel horse mare? I have a 10 year old Barrel Horse Mare. She's "hot" all the time -in and out of the show ring. She doesn't "walk"....its always a prance, side-pass, and head-throwing because she wants to GO!! Its hard for me to "pleasure ride" her. I can't enjoy myself. People have suggested suppliments, such as Vita-Calm, Calm and Cool, Quietex, and Mare Magic to give her to "knock the edge off". I want to be able to pull her out of the barn and hop on her and her be calm enough to walk. Just wanted to see if anyone has used any of these suppliments or has any other suggestions for another brand. And how did it work for your horse?? Thanks I have been riding Barrel horses all my life. I know how to handle them. My riding is fine. I've had many of horses who JUST get "hot" while at a show, but they calm right back down and i was able to pleasure ride them at home. However, I just bought this Mare a few months ago. I ran her on the barrel pattern at a show ONCE. I dont run run run her. I know nothing about who trained her and how they trained her. I do agree that this is from her being ran too much prior to me. I cant let the reins loose and relax. She will take off. I dont have the facility to retrain her. I have no arena. Just pasture. She's soo "spazzed out" when i get on her. She wants to run constantly. How do i train her to slow down when she's so spazzed that she wont listen? Thats the only reason i was resulting to suppliments.
