What are some tips for buying horses online? Aw, the age of the Internet. Anyway, I have been looking for horses and I am wondering if anyway had some tips for me while shopping online? What kind of information do you need before you feel it is a good idea to travel out of state to look at the horse? Or do you just scrap the trip to see the horse (since you've talked to the owner, have pictures, videos, etc.) and ask for a guarantee?
Which Website for Buying horses have You Found to Be Reliable? i have been looking at http://www.canterusa.org/ at the OTTB's but ive never owned a horse before and i wouldnt want to be so inexperienced when i do adopt. so what other websites (that you have had experience with, i dont just want a list of random sites that sell horses) or should i try leasing first?
Has anyone made any good real money from buying and selling horses? has anyone made good money from buying and selling horses? example: buy a horse cheap from an auction ($0-500) and then puts 30 days on it and resells it for $1500. granted the horse is somewhat, basic, trained when u first buy it. how much of a profit can u really make and does anyone kno what/how the currant market is like in the state of minnesota? also what your opinion is on when the best time to sell is and how selling is in winter, spring, summer and fall.? thanks

Pros and cons of buying a pair of horses? as some of you may know, im looking into draft horses. I've come across a few ads with a pair of horses being sold, and the description saying "WILL NOT SEPERATE" which I guess is reasonable because they've been together all there lives. so i was wondering. what are the pros and cons are of buying a pair of horses would be. i know theres extra expenses and things. oh, and i was also wondering if seperation anixety between two horses could be a problem. like if i take one horse out, and leave the other in? any adivce would be helpful. thanks guys!
Leasing or Buying Horses? Prices? (approximate?)? Im not sure yet if i want to lease or buy a certain horse. He is a morab gelding, fleabitten. He is in his late teens.... I was wondering if it would be better to lease or to buy. I would want to split things like vet costs and shoe costs. Can anyone give me a rounded price? Is leasing or buying wiser? I would probably be leasing until he passes, so thats a good ten years. But, still, I do not know. I really dont think i can afford to purchase him now though.
Vet checks when buying horses? I am looking for a horse. I plan on getting any horse that I'm seriously interested in checked by vet. My grandma (who has bought many horses in her day) says that it is basic horse etiquette that when buying a horse and getting it checked by a vet, that if you buy the horse, the seller pays the vet, but if you decide not to buy it, you pay the vet. What do you think? Is that still basic etiquette? I don't want to offend anyone by asking them if they are willing to pay to have the horse checked by the vet of my choice. My wanting a horse checked by a vet is mainly to make sure that the horse is physically sound and safe to ride.
Many questions in one, about owning horses and buying tack, etc? Ok, this will be long because I don't want to spend a ton of YA points for all my questions ;) First, I really want to own a horse, they have been a passion of mine since I was around 6 months old. My parents aren't what you'd call 'horsey' so they don't really understand me, but my mom knows her way around horses because she had one once, and my sister may like to ride occasionally if I had a horse. I would help cover some of the expenses. I would probably part lease the horse to a close friend of mine, not some random person, to help with costs. Possible use as a part time lesson horse to help with boarding fees because I don't have the land to support a horse. Please tell me what you think! What I would cover: Initial cost of buying horse Tack, grooming supplies, blankets, etc. Shoes/ Farrier bills Vaccinations and small vet bills Insurance (possibly if I invest a lot in the horse) Any additional supplements or treats Showing fees and outfits Trailering fees I would also chip in on gas to drive me to the barn if it is too far from my house. What my parents would pay: Boarding (usually between 300-700 a month) Insurance (we would each pay half between me and them) Vet bills not covered by insurance Anything not covered above (emergency bills) and in cases when I can't afford to pay everything. What height horse should I buy if my parents agree to let me get one? I am a little under 5'5 with long legs. I weigh about 128 pounds. I am 15 years old and not likely to grow much more. What size saddle do I need using the above measurements? I want to get a western and an english saddle. I ride mostly western but I want to play around a little with english and maybe a little jumping. Any specific brands of saddle I should avoid? I will probably buy a cheap starter kit on ebay for the english saddle. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg on tack for western either. What are your opinions on leather vs. synthetic saddles? I like the idea of synthetic because it's cheaper and less maintenance, plus it's lighter, but leather lasts longer and is better for shows. I won't be doing any high rated shows for a while, maybe a few 4-H or barn shows, but nothing big that would make a huge difference if I used a synthetic saddle. Opinions on leather vs. nylon halters? I prefer leather because it looks better and don't get so grungy like nylon halters do. I do have a job, two actually, and will probably get a better paying one over the summer when my spring/ fall job ends that I currently am working. And I have a ton of money saved. I think boarding and vet bills will be the largest issue to my parents, they always worry about having to pay a huge vet bill plus the large boarding rates. Plus I have a good friend who whould lease from me because her lease right now is too expensive so she is horseless. She pays nearly 500 a month currently so anything cheaper that anyone can reccomend would be great. What should I ask her to pay if do I get a horse? She has english tack and I can buy western so we could just share tack because we are about the same size :)
Would you consider buying a horse in a different state? There are no horses in my price range and trained in my discipline currently for sale in my state. I've done searches and there are a lot of nice looking horses in other states though...so should I consider buying a horse that's out of state (and driving out to test it) or is that too much of a hassle and I should just wait until the right horse is for sale in my state?
What to look for when buying a horse acreage? We are considering buying an acreage - about 5 to 10 acres. Besides a barn, fencing, ring, and other things that can be built, what do I need to look at and consider as far as the actual land goes? Any experienced people who keep their horses at home - your comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

Why do people buy horses without a prepurchase exam? I've been horse shopping lately and won't buy a horse without getting a prepurchase exam done first. Horses are expensive to feed, house, shoe, etc., and I don't want to get stuck with a horse I can't ride. But, I'm finding that other people seem to snap horses up without getting an exam done shortly after horses are advertised. Some sellers seem like they'll just sell their horses to the first person who shows up with cash.

Sales tax on buying horses? Hi :) my family and i are looking into buying a horse. my mom has one question though, is there a sales tax on buying a horse? thanks :)
Bad luck buying horses..? I've had three horses. 2 appy, 1 quarter. All mares. I had all vet checked, and I rode all of them before I purchased.....However, when I got them home, its a different story. I let all settle in, and get used to the surroundings. When I got on one, It wasnt the same horse I looked at!.....Same thing happened with all of them. THey all acted like they didnt have a ounce of training. Im a very gentle rider, and all I want is a nice horse I can trail ride and ride in the arena, nothing spectacular. I bought all these horses at different times from different people also. Could the previous owners have tranquilized them before I came or what?? I had the vet come again to make sure the problem wasnt medical. Should I buy my next horse from a dealer or large ranch instead? I mean, I didnt wait months and months before I started riding. I checked the bit and tried different ones, I made sure the saddle fit perfectly. Im very calm and gentle around all animals, I just seem to have bad luck. And I didnt just pay 100 dollars for them either, I paid $1500, $1200, and $3000. Does anyone have advice? I ride western. I ride my friends new barrel gelding and We do fine together, I use my saddle and ride where I rode mine....Why just my horses?

What should I look for in buying a horse? I am a first-time horse buyer and would like to know what to look for and how much to pay for a horse. I have some experience in caring for horses, as I boarded one, but I have never ridden one! I read books & watched owners ride their horses, but never took any lessons. I have my eye on a 15hh paint gelding (quarter horse). he is 3 years old, and has had training for trail and has went through a desensitizing program. so he is very well behaved (gentle) and broke. he is listed for $2000. he is up to date on coggins, worming, shots, and farrier. is that a reasonable price, or should i try to work it down? the owner is going to do payments with me so what would a reasonable down payment and monthly payment be? I am going to be riding him at a walking pace, I am not into barrel racing or anything like that. Anything else I should know ?Thanks!I might do private lessons with this horse if i buy him, so I can learn to properly saddle and ride him!
what do you guys think r the pros and cons 4 MN closing all slaughter houses 4 horses? as i assume that most of you are aware that all mn slaughter houses have been closed down for the purpose of most people are going , buying horses and slaughtering them for many cruel reasons. my pros and cons are pros- horses can not be baught for slaughter any more. cons- as for the other horse that truly need them, because they are sick is truly unfair because the farmer now only has the choice of putting it to sleep and hireing a rendering company (which would b to much money.), leaving their horse to suffer and die on its own (way to painful!) or shooting it! (which is way to cruel!) i say that they should open a few in each state that can humainely slaughter them by recomadition of a vet. this way it is fair for the horse and owner. so my q is, what are your guys pros and cons on them closing all slaughter houses 4 horses? i think that it is ttly wrong that people would buy horses just to slaughter them! what i mean is that it would be a bit more humaine and less expensive for the farmer. i did not mean to eat. i think that i have educated myself well enough to understand that it is a good and bad thing.
