Horse TRaining School? Im looking for a Horse Trainin School in OK, Ken, Or Texex got any web sites that would help me out?
Where I can go to school to study Horse breeding and training, and ONLY horse related subjects? I have been around horses my whole life and done many things with them, including: western (barrel racing, trail riding, working with young horses), english (competing and training in hunter/jumper through the adult ameteur level, working with young horses, teaching basic riding to children, groom at shows, exercise rider). The first time I was on a horse, I was only 9 months old and have never stopped loving them since! My dream is to attend a "horse only" school where I can study about breeding and training and not have to suffer through classes I don't need (i.e., math, english, history, science). I have attending Pratt Institute for the last two years and it may have been the worst choice of my life. I was forced to be in classes I wanted nothing to do with and had a horrible time there. I wasn't even enjoying my major, as I only had TWO classes in it and all others core subjects!! Please, if anyone knows of any school like the one I described, I would be eternally grateful.

can you re-train a school horse to be more responsive? i'm buying a horse that used to be used in lessons (STB) and shes still got that 'laziness' that some school horses have..you know the stubbornness to respond straight away to aids. my question is, if i get a trainer in, can she be re-trained to be responsive or not? also, if i can, how many training lessons average would she need (trying to work out cost...)

horse training tips?. (Teaching horse to turn)? i have a saddlebred mare and i have finished breaking her under saddle and rode her while my dad lead her around now im moving into turning left and right and i am asking how to do it. I ride english and when using english bridle, the rider is suppose to pull the rein in not out and keep the rein tight so what i did is stand on her left side, reach over her shoulder, grabbed the rein on her right side, held it tight same length as the left rein and pulled in asking her to turn right, but she swung her head and backed up really fast. So what i did next is clipped the lead rope on the bit and ran the rope through her side and her back coming back to her left side and pull which gave her no choice but turn and she did, after a couple of tries i unclipped the rope and did same thing before i added the rope and she turned as i clipped the rope on the left side and pull she started to go crazy. So how can i teach her to turn?, i will be using her as a jumping horse, I dont have a round pen or arena so i will have to do it in an open pasture. Im asking for your help and if it does not work we will send her to a training school. Please dont tell me that i need to get a trainer or give me any rude comments, i want to do this by myself first but if it dont work i will get a trainer. If you have any tips please tell me. Thanks! Like I said i dont need anyone saying i need to send her to a trainer because i will do that, but first i want to see if anyones advice will work and if it dont i will send her off to a trainer. also i am located in jacksonville, TX Thank you for the help eberyone! I will try this and if it doesn't work I will get s trainer

how is the horse economy? I'm planning on attending a horse school for horse training and management to learn all about breeding and training and having my own ranch etc. I was just wondering those of you who have your own places like this, how is the economy right now for that industry, for I hear it's horrible, but I see horses being sold left and right here in Minnesota. Also do you think that it will pick up in like 4 years by the time I graduate or get worse? just looking for opinions for those of you who breed and train horses for profit. Thanks!

What are some main steps for training a horse to pull a plow/carraige? Im doing a report 4 school and so far i have: putting on saddle and reins, and how to start/stop the horse. My mom says something about adjusting the bit to attach the plow but she hasnt had a horse since she was about 15 and doesnt really remember too much about it. I've searched the internet but nothing seems to have anything on attaching plows.....

Which horse to take...? Which horse should I take riding? I want to take the horse I used to work with, Annie, but she hasn't been riding since the last time I rode her, that's when she lived with me, around two months ago. She has quite a few problems then, I'm sure her lack of being with people (she doesn't see anyone now that she moved boarding) and her lack of being ridden will cause her to have more problems. I will probably be riding the two year gelding, she just got out of horse training school. =] But would it be safe to try out Annie again? I would risk it if I could just fall off, but now if I get bucked off and fall on me knee I have to have surgery on it again, which would really suck. It waists a lot of your time. So could I try riding Annie? Or would it be too much of a risk? I don't really know how to train a horse, Annie was getting a little better, but know that I haven't worked with her at all I don't know how she'll act. Ha ha. I never wear helments while I'm riding. NEVER. =]
Horse related school? i want to become someone who trains horse and/or an instructor. what school would be best for this? i live in ohio.
Horse Training Industry? I am a high school student and I am starting to consider my career. I am thinking of becoming a horse trainer and I live in Canada. The only problem is, I don't know where to start looking for a job (When I am old enough of course) and I'm not really sure what field I want to go into (English, western, racing, ect.) If anyone out there IS a horse trainer, and that is your main occupation, or if you know someone who is, please let me know. I would like to know about things such as salary, hours, what kind of person it takes to do the job. Oh and I have lots of horse experience and I have trained my own horse before (he was wild until he was 15). And if anyone knows if I'm supposed to go to school (post secondary) to become a horse trainer, please let me know. Thanks. Oh and if you REALLY know what you are tlaking about, you can contact me a shoot.to.thrill44@hotmail.com

Any good horse training camps closeby? I live in Maryland, close to BWI Airport and I have been very interested in pursuing a hobby or possibly a career in training horses. Not racehorse training but western riding or pleasure/trail horses. I plan to go to vet school and I would love to do some training alongside with being an equine vet. I just wanted to know if anyone knew of any good camps for teenagers or young adults 15-17 years old or so. I am looking for a good beginners camp that shows people the basics of training horses like teaching young foals to wear halters and walk with you and such. if you have any good suggestions or reccomendations, please let me know. Thanks! ((:
Horse training help!? I've always used a martingale on my horse while schooling and jumping at home because he tosses his head and doesn't like to tuck his head while doing flat work. But during eq classes at shows you cannot use martingales, so i have been using draw rein in addition to try to teach him to keep his head down w/o his martingale, but it isn't doing much. Does anyone have any tips on things i can try? Because I'm out of ideas Also i have tried round pen work with him and he is fine there, but he just head tosses when i am on him. getting him on the bit? as in teaching him to reaspond better to bit pressure? It was my trainers idea to try draw reins. I'll try a looser rein on the flat, but while jumping i'll keep a short rein. Johnny is an ex racer and he loves to go fast and faster!

Is there anywhere that I can send my horse for dressage training in the Cheshire/Northwest area? Hey, my horse has been a hunter and a showjumper pretty much for all of his career and I was wondering wether there was someone who could school him for dressage for me, I have tried but he can be rather difficult, he has reared up with me because he get's confused. His rearing is NOT a problem it is just because he struggles with the contact and does not engage his back end. Thanks a lot :)
Horse training etc or naturopathy? which is a better career? I'm looking at studying in coffs at the school of natural medicine,(anyone been there?) i was going to start off doing massage and work my way up to a diploma in naturopathy. The way the economy is going i don't know if this is a good idea anymore, if people can't afford petrol would they still opt for natural medicine even though there's no rebates? I'm really interested in this, please anyone who works in this feild, is it as good as it looks from the outside? and will i make good money? i have been i'll in the past and thought it would be great to be able to work and learn and heal, but...I'm also in love with horses and have rescued two, i spend alot of time with them so i don't know if it's better to study equine science or horse training or something instead (alot harder work i realise). have thought of starting a horse rescue group but thats years off, please someone help me i'm at a cross road and don't know which way to turn!
Horse training as career? long question? So I really want a career with horses, preferably a horse trainer, but with the horse industry being down because of the law against slaughter and now our country's economy in a rut I don't know if I could make a living off of it. I knew I would never get rich off the job but now I feel as if I would need to have a second job to pay for my living expenses. What do you guys think? I'm a jr. in high school and have been riding for almost 15yrs now. I've trained two horses to barrel race, taken English riding lessons, worked with and started young horses, and have been showing for the last six years. I know quite a bit about horses and how they think, and I think I'd make a good horse trainer. Over the next two summers I'm planning on working with a well respect trainer in my area, she is basically an all-around trainer so I think she will be a good mentor for me. After high school I'm planning on going to Kirkwood Community College (or a college like it if you want to look it up) for two years then transferring over to a University (like ISU or Auburn) or something. Anyways I want to be an all-around trainer, but lately I've been really interested in western horses(reiners, barrel racers, etc) and KCC has a good program with reining and also gives you a pretty solid foundation in English riding. Anyone have any suggestions for a University I should attend or point me in the right direction? Does anyone know if Stacy Westfall, Bob Avila, or any other well known, respect trainer has an internship or apprenticeship program? I know Clinton Anderson does but I was wondering if anyone else has a program. And does anyone know how much a reining or barrel racing trainer generally makes? -Thank you so much! I know this was a pretty long, possibly confusing, question so it means alot if anyone gives suggestions or opinions.

Opinions on taking ONE year off after i graduate high school to establish reputation in horse industry? I have been thinking lately that i might want to take ONE year off after i graduate to establish myself in the equestrian industry. I have been riding and showing hunter and jumper for about ten years and not to brag... but im pretty good. I want to ride Grand Prix specifically in eventing and show-jumping and train, breed, and sell warmbloods on my own farm... i know these are huge goals. In my one year off I've been thinking that i might want to travel around the US with my horse to compete in big shows and become more well known. Another idea i've been toying with is traveling to Germany for a year to get connections with big breeding/showing farms and possibly showing overseas. Not that I'm putting off college, im actually extremely motivated to go to school... i'm just thinking about what might be best for my future career. Does anyone have an opinion or suggestion to my ideas?

question for horse trainers? I want to be a horse trainer when i grow up. How did you become a trainer? I was planning on going to a four year college and getting a degree in something lol and during the summer after my first year in college going to the 12 week parelli horse training program. I want to train trick horses, hunter jumping, hunter under saddle, and western pleasure. I can already teach horses basics and tricks like bowing, kissing, hugging etc. So horse trainers, what did you do to become a trainer? Did you go to training school or just go straight into training them? on average how much would you guess a horse trainer makes in the USA?
horse training information? heyy, please help me, i am doing a oral presentation for school and need som help finding these things out, please help ASAP, wat qualifications do you need to become a horse trainer? wat personal and physical skills are required? THANX
horse problem..and school?? oh my gosh!! my grades are kinda slipping.. but i can help it.. i am too busy training my horse and practicing for new events and stuff.. but my mom says i cant ride (my horse needs to be ridden AT LEAST every other dayy!! or else she goes insanee!!) if i dont get my grades up! what are some ways i can ride but still have time to do my homework and study and all that??? ooopss i meant to put **CANT** instead of can!! sorrry!!!
What programs are out there to help me with training my horse? I got him 2 months ago but I've only been riding for about 6 months. He was very quiet and well trained when he came first but he is starting to regress so I think I need to do some ground work or something with him. I just got the Parelli level 1 program but I find there is a lot of negativity out there about it, I dont like all the 'hype' and where I live it's not much used. I want to start taking him to my riding lessons so dont want to confuse him. I ride English and there are no schools locally that do training/ground work or even horse care training. No-one in my family knows anything about horses and I dont think there is anyone close by where I live who does. I like the way Parelli Training is structured so I can follow it easily on my own as I also lack confidence and I tend to be a bit too soft with him. Is there any alternative programs out there that could help me? The guy I bought him from uses a combination of Natural and Traditional methods. My main problem is that I have never seen anyone training a horse and am completely clueless! The seller unfortunately lives 300 miles away and he does lessons but its not an option for me. Horses are not really a common hobby in my area, and I'd hate to be giving him 'negative' training without knowing it which is why I'd really prefer some type of 'set program' to start with. I can always broaden my scope later when I'm more knowledgable about horses and what I'm doing.
I'm moving provinces what should I do? Sell my horse or buy a new one? Had some troubles..? I have already asked this-a couple days ago. Thank you so much people who answered but I need more answers!!! I'm moving and I have two choices. I'm moving provences so the cost will be $2500. i need answers quickly as i need to make a decision in the next few days. 1) keep my 5-year-old gelding that I would start eventing with and pay the $2500 of hauling him to my new home. He's a wonderful horse, 15hh. I love him. Bay, four white socks and great conformation for his breed. An excellent eventing horse. I went through 5 months of horror with this horse, there was an incident, he's back to "normal" now though. He'd be easy to sell and he has an excellent pedigree. I might just want to start new because those 5 months were really really hard on me and Ive been having troubles bonding with him again. 2) Start new and buy a young prospect from where I'm moving to (not pay for hauling)Train this horse with the help of a trainer and do future eventing. Bond with this horse and do all the training plus get to see it very often. Know the horse a lot longer and ride school horses until training is complete.
Pony Training Business? has anyone gone into training ponies for younger kids? i have been riding for 7 years and am training a school horse right now who is 8 and has never had any experience i think i might like to get a pony, untrained, and train it for a young kid who wants to ride i was just wondering how you got started and results? i dont think seven years is too short to be training i have already trained two horses before and am working on another one who is completely green, doesnt know when to take off to jumps and doesnt know lead changes yet (we are getting there) when he came in he wasnt able to be used as a school horse because he was too green, 4 months later, he has little kids riding him and jumping him 2 feet (he can only go up to about 3' because he has a bad leg)
Public School or a Horse? HELP!!!? Here's the deal... I've been off and on public school and home schooling and am a total social butterfly, so obviously I like public school a little better. So I'm heading into 8th grade and wanna go back to a school that my parents hate but I love the people there so yeah. But my mom says if I'm home schooled again I can get a horse and begin my rodeo training (a dream of mine) and go back into karate which I loved! What's your opinion I need help!!!
Horse Training Questions????? I want to be a horse trainer when I grow up. Im 16 years old and a sophmore in high school; not making very good grades: Bs and Cs. Obviously not scholorship-worthy. I live in Owensboro, and I plan on moving to Lexington if I actually follow through with this career choice because I have a feeling I wouldnt get very many customers here in this small town. I heard horse trainers dont have to go to college, that they just need sufficient amounts of experience. My question is, is it true that they dont have to go to college, and if so would it still be better if i did and what classes to take?? What colleges are good for this?? What can I do to gain the experience I need to be a horse trainer? I mean obviously work with horses regularly but what can I do with them? My family owns three horses, all ive basically done is lead them around the pasture and ride them. One in particular is young and a bit feisty, he is an 8year-old gelding and he's pretty much destined to be mine since im the only one up to dealing with him. Anything you can tell me about what I would need and this career field is appreciated!
Trail horse training tips? I am 18 and work at a horse barn. I bought my 14 year old paint mare a little over a year ago. This summer after I graduate high school, I would like to take her to Brown County Horseman's Campground outside Nashville, IN. I have gone there hundreds of times with friends, but never gotten the chance to take my own mare there. My mare is very sturdy and in shape. However, she is sometimes fairly spooky and stubborn. She hates to go out of rides alone, and she will fight me every step of the way. I don't really have anyone to ride with, so riding alone is my only option when I'm at home. What are some things I can do to make riding alone easier. It's leaving the barn that is the hard part. Once we get a good 100-200 years away, she will usually chill out a bit. I don't let her get her way when she throws her little fits. However, as often as I ride, I figured it would be getting better by now. Am I doing anything wrong and what should I change. Maybe some horses will just ALWAYS test you. Haha. I love my mare to death, I just wish she wasn't so herd-bound sometimes. Secondly, when my mare and I are out in the fields or in the woods, if I ever ask her to go faster than a trot, she always tries to bolt for the barn. I will ask her to canter, she will take three or four good strides then spin on a dime and run like a banshee for the barn. I've yet to fall off her and I've always gotten her stopped before she gets far, but I must say... this is annoying. What can I do to end this? Thanks. Kyoko, I supposed I should have been more careful with how I worded this. I do work with my horse. She is fine with bags and weird noises. When I bought her, I worked with her for months in the arena, walking over tarps, riding with trash bags on sticks, pulling logs, and rocks in a can. She gets "spooky," or really just more flustered than anything when she is alone. She is pastured alone. She has two pastures on each side of her's that have horses in them, but she is the only horse in her pasture. I am 18 and trying to graduate high school and maintain my acceptance in Purdue University. So no, I do not have the time right now to work with her daily and nightly. I would just like some tips on making my horse more independent. I believe my horse and I have a very good bond. She waits for me at the gate and though I'm not a parelli follower, I have done join up with her and other natural horsemanship exercises with her. We have a bond, I would just like it to be stronger.
how do i get a riding school horse to not be 'hot'? I ride 3 times a week at this really good place and have a show coming up it is called combined training and i have this horse who is sweet as guts and so affectionate but wen i last rode him in this huge arena, there was this corrner that he didnt like so he just took off and started bucking and scince i was jumping that i had to pass that corner alot and wit the show i dont wont him to be like that because i really want to win and if i fall off like i did in training or if he takes off then there is no chance i am going to win. all i would like to know is how can i go into the jumping ring witout im taking off and i cant jst leave him there to jst look at the corner so he wont get spoked and i cant train there or warm up there coz i need my instructer there coz it is such a big place! i am open to all answers!!! and thanks if you reply
Where can I go to school to train horses or facilities that would help train me??? I love horses and have been around them my whole life and I want to be a horse trainer and I want to achieve my goal and become that but I don't know what to look for and even where. I live south of Chicago and the problem is the stable around here is not that good. If any one has the name of a facility or a school that would be willing to train me for this I would be eternally in your debt. I really hope you can help. Message me if you do and have a lot of info and I will answer you as quickly as possible Thanks
Where should I go to school for a good equine education? I wanted to go to Stephens College for there 3+2 program to get a masters degree in Equestrian Education. But I'm having some issues with the school. I really want to train horses and teach people how to ride, etc. What is a good school to go to for this besides Stephens? I want the degree so a school like Meredith Manor isn't going to work... although I hear its lovely.

I'm wanting to do a join-up for the first time, but the horse is pushy and I don't want to get hurt? My mom's friend has two horses, both have been trained by her. One is an 11 y/o mare, who is saddle broken, but not very well trained. I've ridden her and she hardly responds to any of my aids and is a bit disrespectful. the other is a 4 y/o male, i'm not sure if he's gelded but i'm pretty sure he is. he's a little bit tall for me (i'm only 5') and he was abused when he was young. he's in a good home now, but he's not been trained at all except for being halter broke. he's sensitive around his barrel area, (he was beaten hard there when he was little; i think he had a few broken ribs for a while) and he's not shy to take a nip out of you for no reason. he's real pushy, and a little hard to handle. the owner said i would be welcome to learn about horse training with him, and i'd love to try and join up with him. i'm fascinated with Monty Roberts' join up technique, and i want to learn to do it myself, and these two are the only horses i can really try it on. i'm not afraid of the horses, i just don't really know what i'm doing and i don't want to do something wrong and get hurt. i'm not inexperienced with horses, i've been riding for years and have done a bit of lunging practice in the past, but this is totally new and i don't want to screw up. is this a very good idea for me? i've read monty roberts' books and watched his videos, so i pretty much know how to do it, i just wonder if i should wait for a calmer horse. the only thing is, i don't know when a calmer horse will come along. i'm leasing a school horse this summer, but i'm pretty much limited to riding on her. PLEASE i don't need rude comments, if you think it's a stupid idea for me to try it on this horse then please say it nicely!! thank you!! also if you have any tips on join up that would be great too. yes there is a round pen, but it doesn't look like it gets much use. the horses are healthy and everything, but they don't get much attention.
Too old to compete in horse riding at professional level? Well im 14 and have been riding for about 4 years and i can canter and all the basics including shapes such as demi-volts and 20m circles etc. and i love jumping and would like to take it to possibly an olympic level and i can jump pretty well and love doing it. But i don't have my own horse i train at a small riding school. Do you think i started too late to take it to professional level?
How to train an unbroken horse with good ground manners? I recently acquired a six year old mare who is not broke to ride however has good, steady, and sturdy ground manners. I have a trainer however I would like the opportunity to train the horse myself, due to the bonding process which occurs. I know where to start, however I wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions towards the schooling of this beautiful mare. I really would like to eventually use her for barrel racing, so any suggestions/tips/hints as to the techniques to use/incorporate into her training would be highly appreciated. Any suggestions for literature?
should i write a book about Japan? Hi, I have an idea to write a story about life in Japan, anyone think this would work?I lived there with my daughter on two occasions, and love the culture etc. There seems a few books on Gaijins in Japan, I'm thinking add notes on the schooling, horse training etc. I would appreciate any advise.Thank you.
are there schools for training horses? I want to become an animal trainer and planned on taking classes to help but it seems everywhere I look focuses on more common domestic pets like dogs. I want to start with the basics first...manners and basic ground work of course and learn more as I go. I meant schools that get more in depth with technique and psychology
training a young horse? I have just got a horse on loan for a few months, hes 4 years old, a tb, and 15.1hh hes is such an angel on the ground and a real sweetheart, hes has raced like once or twice as a 3 year old, but now is purely a riding horse and competes occasionaly. when i rode him, he was very speedy as he would be, and it was difficult trying to rise to his trot it was so fast, and then if you try to do a half halt, he goes down to nearly a walk, it does also take a while to make a 'smooth' transition from trot to canter, and looks rather messy, when he is in canter its still quite fast and very difficult to get him to stick to the track in the sand school, as he preferes going round in a circle, other than that he is very good for a 4 year old, as he doesnt buck or nap, but hes just very fast, any tips for training him to relax and take things a bit slower? oo btw, his owner doesnt ride him alot due to a old injury (she rides him about 3 times a week), but does lunge a bit, he lives out and spends alot of time in the field, do you think its purely because hes young and doesnt get ridden as much? or does he need some serious schooling? :P what exercises do you recomend for fizzy horses? thanks :D
My riding school is allowing me to go there and practice my riding on my new horse for the 2012 London.? i started riding school when i was 3 and left when i was 13 but they have agreed for me to come back and ride my horse and train for a grade 12 im on grade 9 now and i cant wait can anybody give me any information about what to wear as i have not rode at a school fr a year and i ride my horses in jog bottoms and top with hat thought or just any information on how it going to be getting a grade 12 if any one is grade 9 and over x I live in england and ride English and i don't no if any one in other states ride in grades but if you don't then in england i got to grade 9 in 11 years because it is hard to get to grade to grade as they only grade once a year or two. In enland where i go the instructor grades you and then you get a rosette, but you have do do like a mini dreeage show to grade 1 and to get grade you have to do a mini show jumping and so on. but it is so fun i no its going to be hard but im going to do and try my best thats all i can do. oh and just have FUN!
How do i get my horse to go in the school? I've had my horse for 5 months now and we usually hack out with friends but recently i've been thinking of getting some jumps in and maybe going in the school- especially as the weathers going to be getting worse for Autumn and winter. But whenever i take him in the school he won't move unless there's someone else running be hind him with the schooling whip. I try everything i've been taught and i se my whip on him but still get nothing out of him except a slow plod. I know he's familiar with the school because he was trained as a schooling pony before he was sold. It's kinda embarrassing so i wondered if there was anything you guys could suggest to help me?

Q1: If you are taking Horse Ground School 101, what tools would you use for hip disengagement? Why is this? the first thing you'd learn how to do and teach a horse after haltering? How ofteh do you review this lesson in your horse's life? Please, adults that know these next 5 questions I am posting, don't answer. After reading the myriad repeated questions about lunging, poor handling control, buddy and trail sours, bucking, etc., I have come to realize most of these younger riders don't have "feel", nor do they even know how or why to get it. Those that got training by riding (without lessons) on horseback learned "feel" the hard way. Maybe we didn't know about proper leg positions or cues, but our horses would have tried to climb a telephone pole for us because we were partners. So let's see if any of these young riders REALLY know how to handle a horse! Edit: Good for you, Candice We are hoping that some young riders know some of this and post it! Edit: Yipee, a seventeen year old knows this. Thank you Shortsuf. So how come this isn't explained to other young riders?
What does a rider with schooling mean to you? I have been applying and riding at various places around school (college) I have a vast background in horses ranging from 8 years of schooling, to 4 years in therapy riding work and freelance stuff. I was curious what having someone with a background in a horse schooling environment (ie lessons) vs, someone that just rode to ride. I am curious because some of the horse people that I meet (who are mighty good) have had no formal training at all. And no, the schooling horses I used were not on auto, though maybe when I started, but not in the end of things.
