Horse riding helmet replacement? Three months ago I had a very traumatic fall from my horse, and I am just now preparing to begin riding again. I had no serious head injury, and my helmet looks fine except for some scratches. I have heard that it is always a good idea to replace your helmet after a serious fall, but my helmet looks fine to me. Should I replace it anyway? If I should, does anyone have a particular brand or style that they prefer? Thanks so much!

What type of Horse Riding Helmet should I get? I ride western/endurance mostly trails and barrel racing and need a new helmet. I'm debating between the Troxel Legacy Gold and the Troxel All Trails Dakota riding helmet, but if you have any advice on something cheaper I'm all ears! But I would mainly like to know which one is better out of the above two because I've been reading reviews but I can't find anything that would help my decision lol. I don't think this matters but it might help: I'm a 16 year old Female and weigh 103 lbs and am about 5 feet four inches and my horse is a quarter horse mare about 15.3 hands maybe and she's 7 years, But like I said that is all probably irrelevant:p Thank You for your help! I really Appreciate it:)

Would this horse riding helmet work on a kid? I want to get rid of my equine riding helmet since I no longer ride horses. I have a small head therefore I got a small size helmet. I asked a friend if she knew anyone that would use a small helmet and she said there's a kid at her church and asked if that helmet would work on a kid. I'm not sure. I think it's for adults but how do you know if it'll work on kids? It has a dial on the back to tighten or loosen the helmet http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XMJ6CI/ref=oss_product

Should kids wear helmets when riding horses? Am I overreacting to this? My ex-husbands' family has a ranch with several horses, one of which is not broke yet. The uncle is apparently letting my children sit on this horse for short periods of time to "get her used to kids" and also letting them ride another horse in the arena while he works with the female. My worst fear is that this green horse would buck my children off, or spook the other horse while they were riding, and they would be injured, killed or paralyzed. I know the adults are right there but there is always the "what if" factor. I have insisted that they not sit on the female, and only ride when there are no other animals in the arena, and wear helmets, but my requests have fallen on deaf ears. My ex and his mother think I am a nutcase, even though I have ridden both English and Western my whole life, and as far as I know neither of them have had experience with horses until his mother re-married about 2 years ago. Also, my girls know they should wear helmets, (they are 3 and 5), and they tell their daddy, "If Superman (Chistopher Reeve) can get hurt on a horse then so can we, and Mommy wants us to be safe." But he still doesn't require any safety measures.

I'm beginning horse back riding lessons, what do I buy? I've decided to begin horse back riding again after my fourteenth birthday (In a month), and I haven't ridden since the fourth grade. I remember that I had riding pants, a helmet, boots and a crop, but those don't fit anymore. Are those all the things I need to repurchase? Are there any discount stores for beginners? Thanks :D And any tips for riding horses?
Does anyone know where I can get this horse riding hat/helmet??? Recently when at a local showjumping competition, I saw a rider with this really nice riding hat/helmet. It was grey, and like some of the other hats that have the silver strip through the middle of the hat/helmet, the hat had one too. Except it was a baby pink colour. I would REALLY like to know where I can get this helmet, because I REALLY liked it and have been dying to find it for months!! I dont know if it is just a grey riding helmet with changeable strip things but if anyone knows what the hat is called or where to get one online, PLEASE let me know!! thanks :) - I am from the UK. - The hat was solid, no covers.
What to expect for first-time horse riding lessons? I'm starting riding lessons shortly after the October long weekend from a well-known friend of mine. He is a professional horse trainer and I've arranged some well-priced private lessons with him. My question is, what should I expect for my first time on a horse, and what should I be aware of. Also, which clothes do I need to wear? I know a helmet, boots, and gloves are essentials. Do I absoloutly have to wear breeches? Please no silly or serious answers. 10 points for most thoughough and informativive answer. Oh, and if you actually ride horses, that would be great! Thanks Ellie I'm doing English Style Riding, not western. All you people have great answers so far! Thanks for all the help you've given me! It will be hard to choose the best answer though.

How would I be able to convince my parents to let me do horse back riding? I live right across the street from a farm. There are loads of horses and they give horse back riding lessons. They are 40 bucks...My parents won't let me do riding lessons because they think its too much with the Helmet, the shoes, the pants needed, and the 40 bucks for lessons. How can I convince them to let me go?

Does my horse riding hat fit me? I looked up a video on youtube that was really helpful and my hat fufills all the criteria except for when I put my head upside down it just slides straight off. Do you think that hat is safe? Can I put like that foam you put in cycling helmets in my ridin hat and if so how? Thanks By the way its meant to stay on when you put your head upside down so that you know if it fits properly. Geez I am not quite that stupid.

Horse Helmets? I recently purchased this helmet for riding: http://www.statelinetack.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=SLT650530%20S%20WHT because my other helmet http://www.statelinetack.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=SLT722636%20LGFSA had cracked when I fell off my horse, and I didn't rebuy this one because it didn't have the removable visor (that is what stateline said). The new helmet is very light weight, and I am wondering if it'll still protect my head well?

Riding a horse using a bicycle helmet?!? I want to bareback ride my Belgian Carlene, she is 17 hh. I have never rode bareback before. My dad goes "I don't give a @#$% about that horse go get on her for all I care!" I ride western usually and I don't wear a helmet as most westerners don't. He don't care if I die. So I am asking is a bicycle helmet too tacky on you if you ride a horse? No one will see me and I guess it's better than dying. She is 12 yrs old like me and she has never been ridden. I know this might be a bad idea but I want to ride really bad, I usually ride well broke trail horses and my dad said I could ride her until I get a 15 hh Haflinger in September.

Horse riding and Driving nerves? Rearing Problem? I need help!? So I have been around horse for pretty much my whole life. I have taken many riding lessons. I am in 4-H and in a horse club and I go to horse shows. I started out riding a perfectly behaved horse (I learned how to ride), and my now main riding horse when I got her loped fasted and shyed and spooked and crow hopped a lot (teach me lots how to ride) but now she is like perfect behaved and I always trust theses horses but they are both broke to ride to start with and neither of them ever, ever, ever, rear. So now we have this young horse, a gelding, and got him broke by someone...twice. Anyway, I rode him sometimes this summer and I had one time where he just kept on rearing and rearing and rearing. If he walks away from the barn, it makes him mad and I swear he will rear, and it makes me sooooooo nervous to ride him. Like my heart is beating 90 mph when I ride him. Its not like I have never fallen off before, and I always ride with a helmet so I don't know. Anyway, I haven't ridden him much this winter and my Grandpa just got a harness for him (he was trained to drive too) and when they people who trained him drove him in front of my Grandpa and my Grandpa thinks he is great. I am really nervous, I think he will misbehave, or rear with the cart or something. Our cart is this type: http://www.amishcustomcartsandhorses.com/catalog/images/01L.jpg you know, not a wagon. But don't get me wrong, I love this horse. He is such a cutie, and completely bombproof. But I just don't like how he trys to bite you playfully, looks for every possible way to get in trouble, rears, jumps, makes me nervous, worry me he is going to buck, and misbehavior on the lunge line. I know he is a young, playful gelding, but I have seen other horses his breed and age behave much better. So here are my questions: What can I do to stop his rearing? How can I stop his small misbehavior's? (biting, misbehavior on lunge line, ext.) Is it possible for him to rear in that type of cart? (I obviously haven't learned to drive yet) How can I calm my nerves when I ride him or work with him? So those are my main questions any other tips you have would be helpful! Thanks in Advance!!! :) Mulereiner - Only once I believe he has reared being lead. But that was when he was much younger and in a completely new environment. He is a perfect trailer loader, and he was fine when I led him that way. But when I lead him away from the barn to lunge, he does sometime run into me and trys to turn around, but I always watch him like a hawk for any sign of rearing or jumping or something. And once I rode him and my mom walked next to me when I rode and he was fine, but when my mom was with me it calmed my nerves a lot, so that may have had something to do with it. I believes he rears for one/two purposes. One would be to remove the rider. But mostly for the sole purpose of him looking for a way to get in trouble.
Why do English riders wear riding helmets while western riders wear only felt or leather cowboy hats? Aren't western riders just as apt to fall off their horses as English riders? Aren't their brains just as fragile? What is the difference? And why don't western riders protect their heads?
What should I wear for a day of Horse Riding? I have my own helmet and boots, but what should I wear as well? i'm going hacking with my Dad and his wife all day and I don't want to look out of place. I have jodphurs, should I wear them? And what kinda of thing shall I wear on top? Thanks (:
HORSE RIDING CONTRACT- How Do I Go About This? I am planning on having a girl "on call" to come ride my horse in exchange for mucking her stall and taking care of her when I can't make it out. In return I'll let her ride my horse that day, or if she only has enough time to take care of her, I'll arrange another day for her to come out. I want to make up a contract for her dad (she's 17) to sign that would protect both parties and especially my horse. This would NOT a lease contract and NO money will be exchanged. I would watch her ride a few times then she would just come out on her own and ride... I'm hesitant to do this since I've never let someone ride my horse when I wasn't there! But coming out to watch her would ruin the point of having her take care of my horse at all. How would I go about writing such a contract and what must it include? I am so confused and don't know how to properly word it to make it legal... I realize that nothing I write myself is 100% a binding legal document, but it can at least be provided as evidence in court if something happens. Here's what I'd like in the contract: *They are responsible for (at least) 50% of any vet bills directly resulting from her riding or neglegence or failure to comply to rules *She is liable to reimburse me 50% of my horse's worth ($1,250) in the case incident of the death of my horse directly resulting from her riding, neglegence, etc. *She is NOT responsible for any other fees or bills besides those mentioned above *She must wear a helmet and my horse must wear boots *She must have written permission to take my horse off of the property (I board my horse at at NAMELESS barn, so I'm not sure how I'd legally write that!) *She must remain inside the gates of the stable *She has no rights to make any medical decisions for my horse without my verbal permission (I'd like it to say that if the owner of the barn cannot be reached and I can't be reached, that she could make emergency decisions, but IDK how you'd right that.) *She has no rights to allow ANYONE other than herself to ride or handle my horse for any reason *Any time she rides or cares for my horse MUST be arranged between us first *She must abide by the rules of the stable *The contract lasts until Spring *I can terminate the contract at any time for any reason I tried looking at sample lease agreements, but none of those helped at all... Is there any links to a contract like this online? It would be GREAT if you could write me out a sample yourself, but just a list of what it should include would be great. Thanks!
Getting ready for first horse riding lessons? I am going to be starting horse riding lessons probably the weekend after this one and will be learning english style. I want to eventually do some dressage and show jumping and maybe cross country. What should I expect for my first time on a horse, and what should I be aware of. Also, which clothes do I need to wear? I know a helmet, boots, and gloves are essentials. What about breeches? Also I am a bit confused about helmets and hair. I am a guy with longish shaggy hair that is layered. Under Rider Attire, the riding school blurb says that hair should be out of the face and be NEATLY hidden under riding hat. or be NEATLY pulled back in a bun, braid, or styled above the collar (their emphasis). But under a website I found about fitting a helmet it said wear your hair in a pony tail at the base of your neck, if it is long. DO NOT tuck your hair into your helmet as it will distort the fit. So what do you do? My hair will stick out from under the helmet for sure so I am not sure what to do or wonder if anyone will care that much.
Starting Horse-Riding lessons...? I'm starting riding lessons on Saturday as a beginner, i've already bought my boots and jods, and they have helmets u can use...any tips on my first lesson? I'm 15 and quite tall and strong so i dont think i'll have too much trouble controling the horse...i dont have a horse and im not an expert on horses, i just love them and have always had a deep longing to learn to ride them... what will the instructors be telling me to do on my first lesson? What should i expect? Any tips of how to act around the horses? Any tips on horses at all? Everything will be greatly appreciated! :) Thanks!
Does anyone have this horse riding hat? Champion Pro-Lite De-luxe Jockey Helmet? can anyone tell me if they have it, whats it like to ride in? and is it comfortable, generally just what you think of the hat:)
Why do so many people dislike riding with helmets? I see it most commonly among experienced riders. They don't like to wear helmets or just almost never do. I don't understand what the attraction is to riding without a helmet. I'm an experienced rider but I don't like riding without my helmet. I mean, horses can be so unpredictable. What makes people want to ride without helmets? I've fallen off seventeen times and I've been extremely thankful for my helmet each and every time. So what about you guys? Do you guys like riding with helmets? What do you think makes people want to ride without helmets? I agree completely about the brain injury thing. I NEVER ride without my helmet. I'm not afraid to fall so long as I have my helmet on. When I fall, I usually get a little bruised up but am generally otherwise fine because I had my helmet on.
where can i find horse-back riding clothes? so my parents signed me up for horse-back riding lessons and i'm really excitedd!! :D i need my own helmet and those special riding clothes. any places or websites where i could get some??(: I can't wait for my first lesson!! :D
been riding for 12 years, going to ride a new horse to possibly show? riding for 12 years, several blue and reds under my belt. lost my racing "bug", and i have been invited as a part of several ppl to come tryout a young colt, 4yo, warmblood. the owner wants a pretty girl who knows how to ride. i am a bit nervous, this position as his main rider could mean a lot for my future career. he has several horses, and just fired a rider for beating his stallion. i have met the stallion, i like him. he only owns male riding horses for show, which is good, because i deal better with male horses (i have been around stallions and colts since i was a beginner) the owner says i can teach the colt to do whatever, as long as he is quiet and happy. i hope i get the job. i want to know, what would you do the first time out with a young stallion (beautifully trained i have been told, by many ppl) jump a small jump? canter and lead changes? i may get to show internationally with him if i get the job. just so u know, i wear a helmet every ride, every time.
